ISDN backup for Air Traffic Control

Ensure uninterrupted air-ground communications in the event of an emergency by establishing a fail-safe ISDN backup for air traffic control between controllers in national air traffic control centers and remote radio facilities.

To create an ISDN backup for air traffic control emergency alternative access system, RAD’s Kilomux-2104 sub-rate multiplexers are installed to transport microphone, loudspeaker and push-to-talk audio from the air traffic controller’s interface to the radio center.

 

The Kilomux subrate multiplexer is an efficient and cost-effective solution for air traffic control applications, integrating data, voice, fax, and LAN traffic over an ISDN backup as well as digital data services, leased lines, IP, and other services. Access to the various services is provided over a variety of standard interfaces at data rates ranging from 9.6 kbps to 1,536 kbps. Of special importance for this application is the fact that the Kilomux is able to recognize specialized PTT signaling and transmit it across the ISDN network.

 

RAD’s Megaplex-2104 access multiplexer can be used as a compact groomer and cross connect, supporting fractional E1 traffic from multiple Kilomuxes and allocating timeslots per radio link.
